http://www.hurricanetrack.com
This is the first selelction off of the “Tracking the Hurricanes: 2004″ DVD that was released in late 2004. The 2-hour DVD documents the entire 2004 hurricane season from hurricane Alex in August to hurricane Jeanne in late September. Alex struck the Outer Banks of North Carolina on August 3, 2004 as a category two hurricane. HurricaneTrack.com was there to collect data and video of the event. This clip has been edited from the original DVD version to conserve time. For the complete DVD, visit HurricaneTrack.com and click on the store button on the homepage. There will be additional selections from the 2004 DVD as well as the extraordinary 2005 DVD- including hurricane Katrina in Mississippi.

Hurricane Charley – Port Charlotte, FL – August 13, 2004
Hurricane Charley strengthened rapidly just before striking the southwestern coast of Florida, over Charlotte Harbor, as a Category Four hurricane. Although extremely small in size, Charley produced sustained winds of 150mph and gusts to near 175mph, causing catastrophic wind damage in the communities of Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda, FL. The Charlotte County Medical Center recorded an unofficial gust of 150kts (173mph) and the Charlotte County Airport recorded 139kts (160mph). Charley’s minimum central pressure at landfall was 942mb (27.82in) and I recorded 950mb (28.05in) at my location near Fawcett Memorial Hospital. Veteran storm chaser Andy Dressler accompanied me on this chase.

How a hurricane is born – The Science Of Superstorms – BBC
A fascinating look at how a little girl walking in the sand of the African desert could cause a hurricane 4000 miles away in the USA. Great video from BBC show The Science of Superstorms. Contains some scenes that some viewers may find upsetting. Watch more high quality videos on the new BBC Worldwide YouTube channel here: http://www.youtube.com/bbcworldwide

Hurricane Rita – Key West, Florida – September 20, 2005
This is a sample of my Hurricane Rita storm chase video. The footage was taken as Rita moved westward through the Florida Straits, passing about 40 miles south of Key West. Peak winds, towards the middle of this clip, are near 75mph with gusts near 100mph. By the end of the clip, storm surge has risen to about 2 feet over South Roosevelt Blvd., along the southeastern tip of the island.

The Science of Natural Disasters
As recent events in Haiti and Chile have shown, the Earth is an amazingly dynamic and mobile planet. Solar heating of the Earth’s surface drives violent weather such as hurricanes; how the Earth absorbs and reflects this heat causes long term changes in climate. Likewise the cooling of the Earth’s deep interior to space drives geological motions, which lead to catastrophic events such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Destructive earthquakes and volcanoes are closely linked through plate tectonics, and in particular where the sea-floor sinks down into the Earth’s rocky mantle at ocean trenches over hundreds of millions of years. The science behind these phenomena is rich and complex, but understanding it is a crucial part of hazard assessment and mitigation.

Hurricane Gloria 1985 – Weather Channel – PART #1 of 5 -
PART 1
Hurricane Gloria hit Long Island, New York on September 27th 1985 at approximately 9am. This was the last Hurricane to directly hit our area, it is now 2007 and 22 years since Gloria, we are long overdue for another like this or greater. This i recorded back in 1985 from the Weather Channel not only the Hurricane hitting Long Island, but broadcasts from weeks before when Glori was nothing but a mass of Thundershowers moving off the African Coast, to the Bildup to a Catergory 5 in the Carribean, to Tropical Storm Henri that hit Long Island 2 days prior to Gloria, to The uncertain landfall of Gloria, to the power going out on my VCR as i lost electricity with the Hurricane over Islip.
The total clip is 40 minutes, i had to break this up into 5 parts to fit, this is part #1.. This will show you where a Long Island bound Hurricane can form & the perfect track this Storm took.. Lucky for Long Island, it struck at a dead low tide & skirting the Outer Banks of North Carolina had helped to diminish the punch that it once had. It is amazing to think that this was 22 years ago & even more amazing that there has been nothing since that was direct. Albeit nothing like the “Long Island Express” of 1938, Hurricane Gloria was a borderline Catergory 2 upon landfal in Seaford, Long Island where the eye passed over.
THERE ARE MORE PARTS TO THIS, PLEASE CHECK MY VIDEOS, I HAD TTO BREAK THIS UP INTO 5 PARTS.
