What is their impact on responding to natural disasters? How are people around the world Affected By Natural Disasters?
All global organizations play and huge role in the rebuilding and humanitarian efforts after a natural disaster. When a natural disaster happens we are all Affected By Natural Disasters.
The Red Cross provides humanitarian aid, as well as providing doctors and nurses where needed.
FEMA- is exclusively a disaster relief organization for the United States, and is slightly corrupted and had a very delayed response in dealing with Hurricane Katrina rebuilding efforts.
United Nations- As long as it does not violate national sovereignty and is an operative in a UN resolution, the United Nations will provide aid, food, shelters, and peacekeepers to aid during natural disasters.
World Bank- The world bank is simply a bank, it will do nothing to aid in natural disasters by itself. But if organizations, such as the UN, ask for the World Bank to help fund aid being sent to an area affected by a natural disaster then it will help by giving out money.
International distaster relief organiztions are necessary in order to handle major disasters. It takes the cooperation of a world wide organization and the economic contributions of the world’s richest conutries to repair the damage caused by earthquakes, hurricanes, volcanoes, etc. No one country can stand alone in the face of major disasters. This is why all countries need to be willing to participate in the funding not only with money but with manpower. Each country has something that they can contribute to this effort. Some countires have technology that would benefit others. Some countries have experience from having to deal with disasters of their own. Each has something that they can give.
I would ask the leaders of all the countries of the world to step up and join the organizations supported by the United Nations. Get involved and make the world a safer place.
