Chile – Rebuilding Espinillo Part 3.m4v
With many different volunteers from many nations, we came together for one purpose, to rebuild the beautiful but broken rural town of Espinillo. 40 families live in this hidden mountain pueblo and almost all of them lost their adobe brick homes in the series of Earthquakes which rocked the country of Chile in February and March of 2010. We came, gave of our time, money and resources to help them put new roofs over their heads, new walls around them and new hopes in their hearts. This three part video series is only a small sampling of our rich time in Espinillo. Enjoy!

While eliminating tons of trash and other pollutants, our instant rice, noodles, and corn powder can be served shortly after adding room temperature water. With our green initiatives, we have reduced the amount of limited resources used in disaster areas.

Hurricane Frances – Jupiter, Florida – September 5, 2004
Hurricane Frances was a long-track Cape Verde hurricane that reached a peak intensity of 145mph, Category Four, north of Puerto Rico. Moderate wind shear began to affect the storm and it crossed the Southeast and Central Bahamas as a Category Three with winds of 115-130mph. Frances continued to weaken to a Category Two, with winds of 105mph, as it approached the Northwest Bahamas. Steering currents weakend on September 4th and Frances responded by turning to the west and slowing to a crawl. Over the following 48 hours, Frances made a very slow landfall over the Florida east coast, coming onshore near the south end of Hutchinson Island as a category Two, with peak winds of 105-110mph. Minimum central pressure at landfall in Florida was 960mb (28.35in). I was accompanied on this chase by storm chasers Jose Garcia and Karl Hoarau. The video also includes some behind-the-scenes footage from the National Hurricane Center, with several forecasters, including my good friends Eric Blake and Max Mayfield (the center’s director at that time).

January 13, 2010, press teleconference in Toronto on how Médecins Sans Frontières was immediately responding to and effected by the January 12 7-magnitude earthquake that struck Port-au-Prince.
Paul McPhun, an operations manager for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Haiti, speaks this morning at a press conference held in Toronto following yesterdays devastating earthquake in Port-au-Prince. MSF is already treating hundreds of people injured in the disaster and has been setting up clinics in tents to replace the international emergency humanitarian organizations own damaged medical facilities. MSF is working hard to get more staff into the country. Around 70 more are expected to arrive in the coming days.
